To those who care deeply about the details and even more about the people behind them…

From age 18 to 24, I worked on superyachts, where perfection is expected and cleaning is a daily ritual. But behind the shine, I saw a problem. We were using harsh, toxic products every day. Breathing them in. Washing them into the sea. Even using abrasive chemicals on delicate surfaces. When questioned, the answer was: “Well, that’s the way it’s always been done”.

What shocked me most was learning that daily exposure to VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in traditional cleaning products can be as harmful as smoking 20 cigarettes a day. That’s what we were inhaling and what we were leaving behind in the air for guests and crew.

Later, while working with the Busoga Trust in Uganda, I helped deliver clean water to rural communities. There, “clean” meant survival, not just aesthetics. That experience reshaped everything I believed about cleaning. Too much of the industry is still built on harmful formulas and greenwashing. So I founded Washdown to be part of the change.

We create science-backed, biotech-powered cleaning products that have a measurable impact. stylish, non-toxic, pH-neutral, VOC-Free and refillable, designed to protect people, surfaces, and the planet. From yachts to hotels, jets to homes, we’re redefining what it means to be truly clean.

At Washdown, we believe cleaning is a hidden art and a silent language of care. For guests. For staff. For family. And for the world around us.

And we go further. Through our 10% tithing program, we support clean water, humanitarian, and environmental causes because cleaning should care for more than just appearances.

My grandmother always said: “Leave a place better than you found it.” That’s what we do in every formula, every spray, every choice.

Thank you for being part of it. With Love, Leah xxx
